Latino Food Insecurity is Highest During Winter Months.

We are lucky to live in a nation filled with such rich ethnic diversity and varied opportunities for growth, yet it is clear that certain ethnic groups have vastly different experiences. For example, 26.9% of Latino households experience food insecurity compared to the national average of 14.7%. This problem is even further exacerbated in the winter months as many Latinos experience seasonal unemployment.

Left unaddressed, the hunger problem, particularly among Lati- nos, is only expected to get worse, especially as we move into the colder months of winter. This is one reason why Green Menu is working so hard toward food equity so that everyone, no matter their race or financial circumstances, can have access to healthy food for their families.

Last week, Green Menu made a donation of 600 pounds of plant-based proteins to Faro De Luz Food Bank which serves the Latino community facing food insecurity. We gratefully thank Food Cycle LA for facilitating this donation and for aiding us to fulfill our mission of easing hunger while promoting human and environmental health.
